Today, there are so many newly discovered artists who are exposing and showing all their creations of wonderful arts to the media so that the importance of arts will still be appreciated by the generation in this modern times. It is not surprising that there are so many modern arts existing today, and even back then, but these “modern art” that we call today will surely not be called as a “modern art” anymore by fifty or sixty years in time. Now, what is really a modern art and when did it start? Modern art is what we call the works that were produced during the period of 1870-1970. 19th century has played a big role towards the existence of modern art today. In this century, social changes also inspired artists to explore new themes. Modern artists think of so many ways and experimented on how they are going to make the traditional idea of what an ordinary art can be changed. There were some people who had contributed to the development of modern art namely, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Gaugin and Georges Seurat. Their vision in developing modern art is to move away the “narrative” thing on how a traditional art has been for so many years, and take it to a more “abstract” form which is the characteristic of modern art today.

As a result, many modern painting, sculpture and other art works are appreciated today, and as we can see there is no particular bad thing that resulted from this development, so we should be thankful that we can still see lots of modern arts in this day.
